Greek 201 Readings in Classical Greek: Lysias 1

$200.00

Description: In this class we’ll be reading a classic post-beginner text, Lysias’ speech On the murder of Eratosthenes. This is a relatively simple attic oration, which makes it ideal both for students moving on to ‘real’ Greek texts, as well as those adjusting to reading and discussing Greek texts in Greek.

We’ll be reading through the Greek text throughout the term, while discussing it in a Q&A mode in Greek during the weekly seminars. Outside the weekly class, participants will be expected to read sections of the text themselves, with email support. Experience in spoken Greek is not required or expected, though students should be aware that the seminars will be conducted in spoken ancient Greek, at a level appropriate to the participants.

Classes will be offered via Zoom. You’ll need decent internet, and preferably a headset or microphone and relatively quiet workspace. Students should also ensure they have acquired a copy of the textbook before the class begins.
