Latin 241: AP Pliny for teachers

$288.00

Description: After over 10 years, the Latin AP Curriculum has at last changed its curriculum, replacing Julius Caesar’s De Bello Gallico with the letters of Pliny the Younger. While Latin teachers are often familiar with a few of his more famous letters, Pliny’s work remains somewhat unknown, and so this switch represents a challenge, even for experienced Latin teachers. This course will both read all the required letters and offer guidance in how to teach them, including pre-reading, reading, and extension activities. Students should be experienced readers of Latin and instruction will be 75% in Latin and 25% in English, although no prior experience with spoken Latin will be assumed or required.

This course will cover: Pliny the Younger, Letters 6.4, 6.7, 6.16, 6.20, 7.27, 10.5, 10.6, 10.7, 10.37, 10.90. All necessary materials will be provided, though students are encouraged, but not required, to purchase A Pliny Workbook: 20 Letters and Suggested Companion Texts from Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers (2025).

Classes will be offered via Zoom. You’ll need decent internet, and preferably a headset or microphone and relatively quiet workspace.

Time: Mondays 7:00pm – 8:00pm, US Eastern Time (New York)

Date: Starting September 1st, 2025

Length: 12 weeks x 1hr

Cost: USD $288
