Description: This is the first of six courses that introduces you to ancient Greek, with both classical and Koine treated, and it assumes no prior knowledge of Greek. We’ll be working with the popular textbook Athenaze (students may use either the English or Italian versions, as available). They will be supported in using either a classical or koine pronunciation, and have access to audio recordings, email and slack support, and weekly seminars conducted 95% in Greek. If you’re looking for a robust ab initio course in ancient Greek, aimed at communicative competencies, this is it.
This course will cover Athenaze chapters 1-7, as well as additional materials as possible.
Classes will be offered via Zoom. You’ll need decent internet, and preferably a headset or microphone and relatively quiet workspace. Students should also ensure they have acquired a copy of the textbook before the class begins.

Time: Thursdays 7pm US Eastern time, starting Oct 12th 2023 (The class time is fixed to 7pm, New York, regardless of other time changes)
